Knowledge, Attitude and Practices of Breastfeeding among mothers of children six months to three years seen at a tertiary children hospital in Freetown

Introduction Severe acute malnutrition accounts for a significant proportion of admission into the tertiary children’s hospital in Freetown. However, adequate breastfeeding is supposed to protect against severe malnutrition. Against this background, knowledge, attitude and practice mothers children admitted hospital, were assed determine current state Sierra Leone.
 Methods: A structured questionnaire specifically designed pretested was used gather information on with aged 3 years below ODCH between January April 2021.
 Result: Of 206 studied, 168 (81.6%) 18 35 years, 145 (70.4%) married. Thirty-five (17%) respondents had inadequate while 61 (29.6%) poor 115 (55.8%) practice. Factors associated include age unmarried delivery by Caesarian section. Exclusive 6 months being married (ρ-0.002). Initiation breast feeding within 1 hour (ρ-0.001) vaginal (ρ-0.005) prelacteal preterm (ρ-0.020).
 Conclusion: Despite high prevalence knowledge among presenting facility, remain poor. There need provide support appropriately carry out good practices especially younger those who deliver via ceasarean section.
